This megaman maker level is a product of an assignment for my master's degree.
For this level design assignment, I used the fan-made ‘MegaManMaker’ editor, which allows you to create levels based on the various SNES/NES Mega Man games. For my level, I drew heavily on the series’ design philosophy—but primarily that of Mega Man 11 and 1—which involves doing ‘a lot with a little’ ’ – that is, having only a few mechanics per level and reusing them in different ways to vary the experience and aid the player’s learning, either by introducing a simple mechanic and then combining it with enemies or other simple mechanics, or by changing the level’s geometry. My aim was to create a platform-oriented level with two branches: one longer but offering an additional gameplay mechanic, making the fight against the final boss easier; and a simpler, quicker path, but with no extra reward.
